Hicks Bay

Te Wharekahika
Te Wharekahika, Hicks Bay is rich in Maori history and the northern boundary of the Ngati Porou tribe. There are a range of activities to see and do while staying in this beautiful part of East Cape.

These include nearby bush and farm walking tracks and there are several beaches to wander along including a safe sandy swimming beach in Onepoto Bay below us.

Opportunities for leisure fishing are at our doorstep.

A short drive and you are at the historical Hicks Bay Wharf where you can catch a fish or take in the panoramic views of the rugged Pacific Ocean coastline.

There's a wonderful backdrop of bush fringed misty hills and beaches that have hardly changed for hundreds of years.

It is also only 35 kilometres to the East Cape Lighthouse, the most eastern point in the world and where the sun first touches mainland Aotearoa.
